Intro

Meet the man who can do it all: Kyle Cokinos. Kyle balances life as a husband, father of three, and a business owner, all while pushing the limits of human endurance. A Texan born and bred, the outdoors has always been part of his story. He grew up fishing the Texas Gulf Coast and chasing greenheads through flooded timber, two lifelong passions that pull him outside whenever he can.

That same drive carries over into how he trains. Kyle has competed at the HYROX World Championships four years in a row (2022–2025), completed multiple 100-mile endurance races, and broken the 10-hour mark in an Ironman. And when most people would’ve stopped there, Kyle kept going. He set a Guinness World Record—covering nearly 94 miles on foot in 24 hours while playing the most golf holes ever. Turtlebox was proud to be along for the ride, keeping the energy up mile after mile.

For Kyle, music is always along for the ride, setting the cadence for long runs, early mornings, and the kind of training that tests both body and mind. It’s all part of living free: getting outside, chasing big goals, and leaning into the pursuits that keep driving you forward.

Q&A

What is your profession? And did you always know this is what you would end up doing, or was it something you stumbled into?
I run my own surety bond business (www.cokinosbond.com) and had no idea this is what I’d be doing. I left the banking world to learn about the bond business, worked for seven years at a large company to truly understand it, and then ventured out on my own to start Cokinos Bond in 2023, in the hospital room as we were having our first daughter! I never saw it working out this way, but it makes the most sense. The majority of my clients are business owners and contractors who share very similar interests in the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Embracing our mutual love for the outdoors, away from the day-to-day job, has helped deepen those relationships even further. It feels like I’m helping friends grow their businesses, not just clients.

When you’re not doing your core pursuit, what else do you enjoy doing?
Spending time with my girls or anything outdoors. Particularly wade fishing the Texas coast duck hunting in flooded timber. My two deepest outdoor passions!

How do you incorporate music into your life?
DAILY. Music fuels every training session, every outdoor memory in some capacity for me. It's the cadence to my runs, the hype to my lifts, and the companion on long, solo car rides for work. I associate so many songs with great memories of my life. Without music, life would be pretty…lame.

What does “Live Free” mean to you?
This ties most deeply with my faith — 1 Peter 2:16: "Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as an excuse to do evil, but live as servants of God." My family, the outdoors, my business, fitness, and good music are all expressions of my freedom under Christ. It’s where I grow with and encourage others the most, by experiencing God’s gifts for us. His creation. All of the good in our lives is His creation.

Any guilty pleasures?
Ice cream or anything chocolate is typically my achilles heel. Can’t get enough of it.

What’s your hottest take or most controversial opinion?
In so many areas of life, especially health/fitness and daily routine, people spend far too much time focusing on the 2%, EXTREMELY MINOR details that result in EXTREMELY MARGINAL/MINIMAL impact/growth. We’re stuck in looking for quick-fix details to life that will never result in much change. We need to reverse it, look at these things like we did as kids, what’s the ‘main goal’ and stop overcomplicating our solutions.

What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you in the wild/on tour?
I did shoot a banded mallard on my birthday and I found out my wife was pregnant. All on the same day.

Who is your favorite musical artist? Or what are you listening to right now?
Very hard to pick just one. Sturgill Simpson currently - Cuttin’ Grass albums haven’t gotten old since the day they came out. Runner-ups: Greensky Bluegrass, Tedeschi Trucks, Whiskey Myers, Treaty Oak Revival.

Favorite Turtlebox speaker and why? How do you use it?
The Ranger has a special place in my heart. It's so versatile and so easy to pack for a trip.
