Eric Jackson
Snowboarding, Hunting & Fishing
Intro
Born & raised in the one gas-station town of Crowley Lake,CA, Eric or “Ejack” for short, was immediately surrounded by Sierra mountains and rivers that flowed from them. Truly a product of his environment, He first strapped in to a snowboard at the age of 9, under the shadow of the volcanic mounds at Mammoth. Though quickly, he shredded his way out of that shadow & up to the peak, where for the last 2 decades he has created a space in the sport that is uniquely his own. He’s part backcountry freerider, part steelhead fishing, bow hunting, beard growing son of a gun. A dichotomy that finds a balance in his critically acclaimed self narrated film ‘Alignment’, which we’d consider cult classic for any snow sports enthusiast. A one of a kind human who’s always chasing the good stuff & exploring the unknown, even if thats just pickin’ a banjo at home.
Q&A
What is your profession? Did you always know this is what you would end up doing or was it something you “stumbled into”?
I knew I wanted to be a professional Snowboarder pretty early on, but it wasn’t till I dropped out of high school that I was totally committed to the board.
Favorite movie?
Pulp Fiction
Favorite book?
The Mind Gym. That book helped me understand how important it is to have a strong mental game, not only in snowboarding, but life in general.
Most inspiring quote, piece of art, saying, or advice that has impacted the way you live today?
“Don’t take life too seriously, you might not make it out alive”
When you’re not working, what are you doing for fun?
Most recently archery Elk hunting but my love for Fly Fishing and playing music runs deep.
Coolest place you’ve ever traveled?
British Columbia is my favorite place on earth.
Bucket list destination you haven’t been yet?
Bali. I really want to do a surf trip there.
You’re stranded on a deserted island - who is coming with you and why?
Isac Aleman for the comedy. Justin Lee to dive for fish and Connor Gabbott to cook. We’d be fine!
You get to have drinks with anyone (dead or alive) - who are you calling?
Teddy Roosevelt. I recently read “River of Doubt” and I had no idea how much of a bad ass he was, I’d love to listen to his stories.
What advice would you give an 18-year-old that wants to do what you do?
Spend less time comparing yourself to others and you don’t need to go to college.
Any guilty pleasures?
I’m a full blown rock nerd.
Favorite wild meat/fish to eat? (i.e. venison, dove, quail, king fish, redfish, etc.) And in what kind of meal do you prepare it/eat it?
Axis deer is my new favorite red meat. I usually keep it pretty simple and rub a steak down with duck fat, salt and pepper. For fish, Black Cod is the best. Miso, brown sugar, mirin, Sake, salt and pepper marinade for 24h and it melts in your mouth.
What’s your favorite element of Turtebox? (battery life, durability, waterproofness, sound, togetherness, elevating experiences)
The durability is incredible! Music brings so much joy to my life and having a speaker that can handle anything I put it through is what I need.
How do you use your Turtlebox?
I think what I love most about my Turtle box is that it’s always with me. Whether I’m wrenching in the garage or booting up to go snowboarding, my Turtle box is jamming tunes!
