Court Douthit
Fishing Guide
Intro
The journey from grade school delinquency to full-time fishing guide is certainly one that took Court Douthit down the path less traveled. Encouraged by his wife Meredith & son Gabriel, Court took the leap from the corporate rat race to pursue his obsession with Tarpon and share it with others. From the white sand flats of Tampa Bay to the muddy jungles of Costa Rica, the puzzle of the chase is what keeps him going.
Q&A
What is your profession? Did you always know this is what you would end up doing or was it something you “stumbled into”?
I have always been in love with fishing and the outdoors. In 2017 my wife encouraged me to become a full time charter captain and fly-fishing guide.
Favorite movie?
The Princess Bride
Favorite book?
A Passion for Tarpon By: Andy Mill
Most inspiring quote, piece of art, saying, or advice that has impacted the way you live today?
“If you want to be happy, be!” Henry David Thoreau
“All good things are wild and free”
When you’re not working, what are you doing for fun?
I love spending time with my family traveling, camping and visiting loved ones.
Coolest place you’ve ever traveled?
This changes for me often it seems. Currently I would say the northern most area of San Pedro, Belize
Bucket list destination you haven’t been yet?
Western Australia
You’re stranded on a deserted island - who is coming with you and why?
My wife because she encourages me to make better decisions.
You get to have drinks with anyone (dead or alive) - who are you calling?
My great-great grandfather, because I would like to get his take on things.
What advice would you give an 18-year-old that wants to do what you do?
Commit 100% and strive to learn every aspect of your fishery and your equipment. Treat every trip and client as if they were the most important of your career.
Any guilty pleasures?
I like beer.
Favorite wild meat/fish to eat? (i.e. venison, dove, quail, king fish, redfish, etc.) And in what kind of meal do you prepare it/eat it?
Red snapper stuffed with stone crab and covered in a buttery sauce. I start with a large American Red Snapper filet and butterfly it. After pulling the stone crab meat add a little butter and place it in the filet. Put it in a glass baking pan and cover it with a little Everglades Seasoning and more butter. Cover and bake until the fish is done to your liking. Serve with drawn butter and fresh lemon slice.
What’s your favorite element of Turtebox? (battery life, durability, waterproofness, sound, togetherness, elevating experiences)
My favorite element of the Turtlebox is the durability. My Turtlebox speakers get washed in saltwater almost everyday and they are consistently abused bouncing around the skiff in waves.
How do you use your Turtlebox?
My Turtlebox is with me most of the time but my favorite use is when we get frustrated with the way the tarpon are acting and decide to go for a ride. Music is a great way to clear your head and relax. When we pull up to the next flat we are both relaxed and ready to make the perfect presentation to the next fish.
