Colt Oder

Pro Bullfighter

Intro

Raised in Moorpark,CA - a small Ag. town some 50 miles north of the bright lights of L.A., Colt grew up around horses & attending rodeos but it never crossed his mind that he would make it into a career one day. And although southern California isn’t exactly the rough cattle country you think of where cowboys roam & rodeos are the biggest thing in town, take a drive up the 101 to Paso Robles and you might think twice. Eyes wide open, a teen aged Colt committed to the trek for a chance to work with & train on some of the best bucking bulls in the nation. A few years into his training, he saw a chance to take a path less traveled & enter into the new and exciting sport of Rodeo-style Bullfighting - a competitive freestyle dance with one of the most brutal creatures on the planet and Colt makes it look like child’s play. The show of confidence in the arena has opened some incredible doors for Colt, including supporting roles & stunt ops in Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ Series. When he’s not in the ring or on screen, you can find him carving out turns on his skateboard, burrito in hand, through the streets of sunny southern California. Now that’s livin’ free...

Q&A

What is your profession? Did you always know this is what you would end up doing or was it something you “stumbled into”?
Growing up in California I never thought I’d have anything to do with rodeo, much less the Bull Riding event. My job in the arena as the Bullfighter is to protect the bull riders so they can attempt to ride the bull for 8 seconds and make a safe escape.

Favorite movie?
My favorite movie is “The Lords of Dogtown”, a skateboarding film that embodies the 1970’s skate/surf culture in Santa Monica, Ca.

Favorite book?
“Mind Gym” by Gary Mack is a book that covers sports psychology in simple terms. They use great examples of sports legends finding success through common positive thinking threads.

Most inspiring quote, piece of art, saying, or advice that has impacted the way you live today?
“If you think you’re beaten, you are. If you think you dare not, you don’t. If you think you’ll lose, you’ve lost. For in this world you’ll find, It’s all in the state of mind.”

When you’re not working, what are you doing for fun?
When I’m not working I enjoy Skateboarding, Snowboarding and Team Roping. I also love working with different types of cameras and being creative where I can.

Coolest place you’ve ever traveled?
Going to Spain to see where the Toro Bravo comes from and some of the original ranches that raised the purebred Spanish fighting bulls. To see the history of the animals was something I’ll never forget.

Bucket list destination you haven’t been yet?
Back country snowboarding in Nelson, BC at The BaldFace Lodge

You’re stranded on a deserted island - who is coming with you and why?
Please don’t leave me there without a skateboard and a Turtlebox.

You get to have drinks with anyone (dead or alive) - who are you calling?
A “drink” with Willie Nelson would be all time!

What advice would you give an 18-year-old that wants to do what you do?
Either be “all in” or “all out”. There is no in between as a bullfighter. When you question yourself you not only put yourself in danger but also the bull rider and your fellow bullfighter.

Any guilty pleasures?
Long drawn out documentaries I never seem to finish and California Mexican Food.

Favorite wild meat/fish to eat? (i.e. venison, dove, quail, king fish, redfish, etc.) And in what kind of meal do you prepare it/eat it?
Fish. I got to work on a deep sea fishing boat in high school and I really enjoyed taking fresh fish home for family and friends.

What’s your favorite element of Turtebox? (battery life, durability, waterproofness, sound, togetherness, elevating experiences)
My favorite thing about my TB is that it brings people together. If we’re out on the ranch or at the skate park and everyone is spread out, just turn the TB on and pretty soon the party gravitates towards the music.

How do you use your Turtlebox?
I use my TB all the time. Whether we’re at a rodeo or just sitting around the backyard there’s always room for the TB.
