Blake Wilson

Freestyle Ski

Intro

Originally introduced to the pristine mountains & streams of New England by his dad, Blake learned to fly fish & ski just to west of his hometown of Bethel,ME in the White Mountains. And while they are some of the tallest in the East, the chance to chase powder & taller peaks came calling & Blake answered, leaving Maine to attend college in Utah. Since then, he has set up shop in Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon where he chases the season’s. Dominating the freestyle ski scene in the winter, guiding for trout in the summer and then chasing big game with his bow & calling in ducks in the fall. If he’s not engrossed in any of those pursuits then you might find him, mid-air in the saddle of a snowmobile somewhere in the backcountry. He’s an all-around incredible human & athlete & we are stoked to power his epic mountain lifestyle with our product. Take a peak into his world in the Q&A below...

Q&A

What is your profession? Did you always know this is what you would end up doing or was it something you “stumbled into”?
My parents took me skiing when I was really young, we had a group of families that would all go hang out in the mountain together. I did mogul competitions for a while and eventually gave up on that type of skiing only to find another aspect of it that kind of carried me on further and further. I knew it was going to be skiing from early on but the style and approach has been very fluid.

Favorite movie?
I mostly watch ski movies and outdoor videos but I will give you two; favorite ski movie is Teddy Bear Crisis and favorite movie has gotta be one of the batman movies.

Favorite book?
“Fishing Came First” - John Cole

Most inspiring quote, piece of art, saying, or advice that has impacted the way you live today?
“Good decisions come from experience. Experience comes from making bad decisions.” - Mark Twain

When you’re not working, what are you doing for fun?
I am very seasonal, always chasing something whether it’s ski season, fishing season, archery season and then duck season takes us right back into skiing.

Coolest place you’ve ever traveled?
Alaska is the coolest place.

Bucket list destination you haven’t been yet?
Always wanted to go to Chile or Argentina.

You’re stranded on a deserted island - who is coming with you and why?
I’m going to go with an old legendary mountain man like Jim Bridger or George Grinnell.

You get to have drinks with anyone (dead or alive) - who are you calling?
Probably Shane McConkey or JP Auclair, both a threat to pow and beer.

What advice would you give an 18-year-old that wants to do what you do?
Trust that what you want to do is achievable and don’t try to hide your personality or style, lean into it.

Any guilty pleasures?
I love sleeping too much sometimes, it drives me mad.

Favorite wild meat/fish to eat? (i.e. venison, dove, quail, king fish, redfish, etc.) And in what kind of meal do you prepare it/eat it?
Gonna go with duck. Probably a pintail drake and do a Bulgogi style dish with rice and veggies.

What’s your favorite element of Turtlebox? (battery life, durability, waterproofness, sound, togetherness, elevating experiences)
I love the sound quality from the Turtlebox. It’s nice to not have to compromise great sound for durability. These can take a beating and still fire up quality tunes.

How do you use your Turtlebox?
I use my Turtlebox all over the place. Get a lot of miles on the tailgate in the parking lot, keeps the job-site cranking on and definitely bringing it with me if I’m shooting bows or on a boat.

Name the most famous contact in your phone.
