Sean Johnson
World Long Drive Champion
Intro
We’re absolutely stoked to have Sean Johnson join the Turtlebox family. After a career on the pitcher’s mound, Sean traded baseballs for golf balls. His athletic versatility is seriously impressive. With natural talent and a competitive edge, he quickly rose through the ranks to become the 2024 World Long Drive Champion. When he isn’t on the course, you can find him either coaching athletes at Tread Athletics in Charlotte or or out on the water catching fish. Sean’s the kind of guy everyone wants to be around: humble, hilarious, and always up for a good time. It’s safe to say we’re fired up to have him on the team.

Q&A
What is your profession? Did you always know this is what you would end up doing or was it something you “stumbled into”?
I am a Performance Coach at Tread Athletics in Charlotte, NC. After finishing up my professional career, as a pitcher, I fell into my passion of supplying younger generations with the knowledge they need to take their sports careers as far as possible.
Favorite movie?
My favorite movie is Talladega Nights. I live by the quote, “If you ain’t first, you’re last.”
Favorite book?
My favorite book is Maniac Magee. I read this book in middle school and haven’t read a book since. How I graduated high school and college is still a mystery.
Most inspiring quote, piece of art, saying, or advice that has impacted the way you live today?
When I was 12 years old, I jammed my thumb into a teammate's helmet playing football and had to sit out for a few plays. My coach came up to me and said, “Hold out your thumb as far as you can.” I did just that and he then said, “You see? Your thumb is a long way from the heart.” There’s going to be days when you don’t feel your best, something feels off, or something is hurt. YOU CAN ALWAYS DO SOMETHING. You must focus on what you can do, not what you can’t do. There is always something YOU CAN DO.
When you’re not working, what are you doing for fun?
When I’m not working, you’ll find me fishing. When the only thing you have to think about is how you’re going to catch a fish, that’s a darn good day.
Coolest place you’ve ever traveled?
The coolest place I have ever traveled to is South Africa. The perspective it put in my eyes with how good we have it in this world was priceless. When you see the wildlife that lives there, on TV, it is one thing. When you see it in person, 10 feet away, it’s a whole new ball game.
Bucket list destination you haven’t been yet?
My bucket list destination is the Amazon. I’ve caught plenty of large/smallmouth bass. Now it’s time to catch an enormous Peacock Bass.
You’re stranded on a deserted island - who is coming with you and why?
Grylls but with an American accent. I’ll need him to survive, but I would go crazy listening to his voice.
You get to have drinks with anyone (dead or alive) - who are you calling?
Roy - Best hockey goaltender of all time and the reason I wear number 33. Pharaoh Khufu- He led the construction of the Great Pyramid at Giza and I want to know how they built it. Nelly Korda - This is how our love story starts.
What advice would you give an 18-year-old that wants to do what you do?
Anything someone tells you is only a suggestion. Know yourself and stay true to yourself because you’re your best coach and the only person who always has your back. Supply yourself with knowledge and learn how to apply it.
Any guilty pleasures?
If it’s salty I’ll eat the whole thing. If I buy chips, I have to buy the small bag because once it’s opened, I’m not stopping until they’re gone.
Favorite wild meat/fish to eat? And in what kind of meal do you prepare it/eat it?
Growing up in Colorado, we had access to the best fish a lake can offer, Walleye. Fry it up, dip it in tarter sauce, and pair it with some of great grandma’s potato salad recipe.
What’s your favorite element of Turtlebox?
My favorite element of Turtlebox is that you can create a curtain of noise that lets you concentrate on your craft. At my coach’s facility, we put one on each side of the trackman bay. When you’re in the bay, you can only hear the music. When you step outside the bay, it’s like walking through concert curtains and you can hear the outside noise again. It’s everything you need to lock in and focus on the task at hand.
How do you use your Turtlebox?
My Turtlebox rides shotgun everywhere I go. Whether I’m headed out to train, play golf, or hit the lake, the Turtlebox speakers supply good vibes in any situation.
Name the most famous contact in your phone?
My most famous contact in my phone is Steve Carlton. We met when I was working at my hometown golf course, after I finished college, and we started working together on pitch design and mechanics. For those who don’t know, he won 4 Cy Young awards and has the most strikeouts by any lefty pitcher, ever.
