Erica Krantz

Team Roping

Intro

By day, Erica’s a merchandiser. But her real passion lives in the dirt of the arena, where she ropes and trains horses with the kind of grit that comes from growing up in the Western lifestyle. From weekday workouts to weekend competitions, Erica’s always on the move, chasing her passions at full speed. Her days are filled with early mornings, hard work, and of course a great soundtrack to go with it all. Whether she’s in her home gym, roping in the arena, or traveling to jackpots, there’s a Turtlebox along for the ride.

Q&A

What is your profession? Did you always know this is what you would end up doing or was it something you “stumbled into”?
I’m a merchandiser by day! I have roped and trained horses for as long as I can remember. I always saw myself in this industry and I’m so fortunate to live the western lifestyle. I’m able to compete professionally over the week and weekends.

Favorite movie?
Tremors!

Favorite book?
Not a book but Food Magazine! I’m a sucker for buying magazines and still clipping the recipes articles. It reminds me of what my mother used to do.

Most inspiring quote, piece of art, saying, or advice that has impacted the way you live today?
Smooth is fast! Since team roping is a timed event it’s easy to get moving too fast and making mistakes sometimes. So, I always go back to the basics my parents taught me when I catch myself making simple mistakes in the arena.

When you’re not working, what are you doing for fun?
When I’m not in the arena I love to work out and I love to cook.

Coolest place you’ve ever traveled?
I’ve traveled a little bit of everywhere with rodeo, but I was able to go to New York one time and I had a blast! It was so different than my real life and it really was just like the movies! Loved it.

Bucket list destination you haven’t been yet?
Italy! I would love to visit to try the food, wine, and see the sights.

You’re stranded on a deserted island - who is coming with you and why?
My boyfriend Jake. He not only could keep me company, but his outdoorsman/hunting skills would most likely be keeping me alive!

You get to have drinks with anyone (dead or alive) - who are you calling?
Sandler! I’m a sucker for a comedy movie and growing up watching and laughing at all his movies and still quoting them to this day. I’d know I would enjoy a drink with him for sure!

What advice would you give an 18-year-old that wants to do what you do?
Whatever you’re doing, if you have the want and passion for it, you will make it. And talent will always beat luck so work hard and keep pushing.

Any guilty pleasures?
Pizza lunchables. I know I’m an adult and all those have a choke hold on me and I can’t shake it. When we stop on our way to a jackpot to fill up, there is a high possibility I’m walking out of the convenient store with a lunchable!

Favorite wild meat/fish to eat? And in what kind of meal do you prepare it/eat it?
Venison hands down! We eat venison almost every night in our household. I’d rather have that than any other protein. During deer season we can hunt and pack the freezer with majority ground venison and breakfast sausage venison. We meal prep on Sundays for the week. A lot of tacos, hamburger steaks, protein spaghetti, pretty much anything!

What’s your favorite element of Turtlebox?
The toughness for sure. When I’m in the arena I don’t have to worry about the speaker getting filled with dirt or falling off the chute and breaking. It’s great I don’t have to worry about it when I’m outside!

How do you use your Turtlebox
I have one in our home gym I use when I’m working out. I also have one for the arena we use when we are roping. Also, when we go to jackpots, I load it in the trailer so we can listen to tunes while we saddle and get ready to compete.

Name the most famous contact in your phone?
Bob Feist. He is the founder of one of the biggest team roping’s in history, The Bob Feist Invitational. Although he may not be famous, he is a legend in our sport.
