Intro
Meet Dusty Tuckness. Professional rodeo bullfighter, man of faith, and someone who has spent his life doing one of the most dangerous jobs in sports. When a bull rider hits the dirt, Dusty's job is to step in, putting himself between the rider and a 2,000 pound animal bucking at full steam. Based out of Meeteetse, Wyoming, Dusty grew up in the rodeo world and started fighting bulls at 12 years old. He's worked 17 National Finals Rodeos, earned PRCA Bullfighter of the Year 10 years running, and built a record that makes him one of the most decorated bullfighter in pro rodeo history. He's had his ear torn off, broken his leg, and keeps coming back for more. When he's not in the arena, you'll find him in the mountains, hunting, fishing, or snowboarding. He's the kind of person who lives fully and fearlessly. We're proud to welcome him to the Turtlebox family.
Q&A
What is your profession? And did you always know this is what you would end up doing, or was it something you stumbled into?
I'm a professional bullfighter. I grew up in the rodeo world. I was big into sports as a kid, but rodeo kept catching my eye. It's truly where I believe God has called me to be.
When you’re not doing your core pursuit, what else do you enjoy doing?
Anything outdoors. Running mountains, hunting, fishing, snowboarding, and making memories with family and friends.
How do you incorporate music into your life?
Music is something everyone can relate to, and for me it covers all areas: from the gym to the mountain trails, pre-gaming before a performance, or soaking up worship music to start my day.
What does “Live Free” mean to you?
For me to live freely, I first have to understand where true joy comes from. For me it comes from above, from my Heavenly Father. Knowing that life is full of ups and downs, but my joy comes from the Lord and not my circumstances, and that allows me to live more freely.
Any guilty pleasures?
Peanut butter and banana puddin'.
What’s your hottest take or most controversial opinion?
The only person that will keep you from doing something is yourself.
What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you in the wild/on tour?
It's hard to narrow it down. This life as a rodeo athlete provides so many cool moments and memories. You get to travel all over, meet great people, be part of movie sets and concert sets. It's just a VIP pass to living the dream.
Who is your favorite musical artist? Or what are you listening to right now?
I listen to a wide variety: Christian rock and rap, country, rock and roll, all of it. Lately I've been listening to Brandon Lake, Elevation Worship, Austin Blaschke, Chancey Williams, and KIDD.
Favorite Turtlebox speaker and why? How do you use it?
I've had the Ranger the longest so I'd have to give it the edge, but I just got the Original and the Grande, and the other night at camp people thought there was a concert going on.
