Intro
Meet Cam Zink. Two-time Red Bull Rampage champion, World Record holder, and one of the most decorated athletes in the history of freeride mountain biking. Cam started riding at 9 years old in Nevada and by 16 had already won a junior national championship, but that was just the beginning. What came next helped define an entire generation of the sport. Crankworx Slopestyle titles, the FMB World Tour championship, a 100-foot backflip in the Guinness Book of World Records, and a spot in the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. He's spent his career going bigger, higher, and further than anyone thought possible. And he's still at it. When he's not on the bike you'll find him surfing, riding moto, snowboarding, or building trails in the mountains he calls home. We're proud to welcome Cam to the Turtlebox family.
Q&A
What is your profession? And did you always know this is what you would end up doing, or was it something you stumbled into?
I'm a professional freeride mountain biker. I always dreamed of being a professional mountain bike racer and snowboarder since I was a kid. What I do now didn't exist back then. It was a combination of my two pursuits plus timing that put me in the right spot to help cultivate the sport I love so much.
When you’re not doing your core pursuit, what else do you enjoy doing?
Hanging out with my wife and kids, and hopefully surfing, riding moto, skateboarding, or snowboarding.
How do you incorporate music into your life?
Music is such an integral part of action sports. Nearly every one of my favorite songs comes from an old snowboard, MTB, or BMX movie or edit. If I'm not motivated, it only takes a good playlist to kick off an amazing riding session. I ride and dig with music 90% of the time.
What does “Live Free” mean to you?
To be able to do what you truly want regardless of social, government, or monetary restrictions. To push the limits of what's possible.
What’s the craziest thing that’s happened to you in the wild/on tour?
Clipping my femoral artery in the middle of nowhere with two people who wouldn't have been able to help. Luckily it didn't break the skin, otherwise I would have bled out.
Who is your favorite musical artist? Or what are you listening to right now?
The new Whitey Morgan album is sick.
Favorite Turtlebox speaker and why? How do you use it?
The Ranger. Tagnets to the golf cart, beach cruiser, and garage cabinets. Fits in a backpack easily and still packs a punch.
